ULI’s Racial Equity and Inclusion Framework for Action
The Urban Land Institute is the oldest and largest cross-disciplinary real estate and land use organization in the world. Our mission is to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact on our communities. We have, over the many decades, set the highest standards in the industry. We adapt, grow, and evolve to seek out and set the leading practices.
To realize this mission it is necessary to listen to, understand and amplify more diverse perspectives engaged in solving today’s land use and urban development challenges.
As we continue to mature, we now face the continued challenge of diversifying our organization and our industry, cementing equity into our core, and casting our net wider to expand inclusivity in our organization and in the communities we impact. ULI’s commitment to building healthy places, sustainable and resilient communities and address social equity has laid the foundation for this next deliberate effort to ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion are ultimately not what we do, but who we are.

Over the last several months, our speakers and webinars have provided insight to our members on the inequities impacting Black communities and communities of color resulting from long-standing restrictive land use regulations, disparate access to financing opportunities, and restrictions to housing choices.
To truly fulfill our mission, we need leadership, membership and programming that is more representative, and responsive to the needs, of the populations within which we work. That’s why ULI Tampa Bay is intent on cultivating, fostering and nurturing a culture of inclusion.
This work builds on and complements ULI America’s priority and work on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
In order to accomplish this mission, ULI Tampa Bay convened a Racial Equity task force to develop a road map for us – to identify the steps that ULI can take to anchor our future efforts.
To start this work, ULI Tampa Bay invites you to participate in a 21-Day Equitable Development Challenge. The goal is to spend time reflecting on and identifying real actions we can take individually, at our company/organization, and as a community to address the inequities in the real estate industry.
ULI Tampa Bay’s Racial Equity Goals
The ULI Tampa Bay Racial Equity taskforce identified 4 main goals, outlined below, which includes a number of action steps for addressing diversity, equity and inclusion within the ULI Tampa Bay organization and greater industry.
