Siobhan O’Kane, a highly experienced urban and environmental planner, has been named Manager of the Tampa Bay District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).
ULI’s goals and objectives are executed strategically at the District Council level to promote responsible land use and sustainable communities. As Manager, O’Kane will direct efforts related to overall direction, management, event planning, operational support and communication services, while working closely with other staff, community partners and members.
The Tampa Bay District Council drives a number of ongoing initiatives, which have included bringing ULI advisory panels to the area to offer advice on such issues as economic development in downtown Clearwater and along the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront, and on planning for growth in Tampa’s downtown area and in Pasco County. The Council also regularly facilitates conferences and events to help industry professionals share best practices.
Prior to joining ULI, O’Kane was the Principal Planner in the State of Rhode Island for the HUD Sustainable Communities grant program on new strategic housing and economic development plans. She worked with consultants, subject experts and members of the public on policies for improving the State’s long-term economic outlook.
Before her position in Rhode Island, O’Kane was the Program Director for The Sir Peter Blake Trust in New Zealand, and worked as a policy planner for the Auckland Regional Council of New Zealand and as an environmental planning consultant for AKRF Inc. in New York.
O’Kane, a 2008 Fulbright Scholar, has a Master of Science in Urban Planning from Columbia University and a Master of Arts in Environmental Planning from Waikato University, New Zealand. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Delaware.
“Siobhan’s commitment to smart planning and excellent organizational skills will position her well to be a leader that will help us continue to further ULI’s mission in the Tampa Bay area,” said Jim Cloar, Chair of ULI’s Tampa Bay District Council. “Her experience as a planner is a great fit with this important position for ULI.”
